| Tim and Pam Baker and their three girls, Rebecca (6), Sarah (4) and Rachel (5 months) arrived in China in August 1988, with hearts ready to teach English to the Chinese. Although they were in a city of several million people in northeast China, they were the only westerners in the city and the first westerners that most of their students had ever met.
Although conditions were very primitive at that time, the Bakers fell in love with China and the Chinese people. In 1991 they moved to Beijing, where Tim assumed the position of Director of Operations for University Language Services, a non-profit teaching organization with more than 100 foreign teachers spread across China. It was then that they made their first visit to a local orphanage.
The Bakers became regular volunteers at the orphanage, and the foster parents of a little girl named Esther, who they later adopted. Through Esther and the example set by Tim's assistant, Philip Hayden, the Bakers' passion to help orphans grew. In 1994, they founded the Philip Hayden Foundation, in memory of Phil, who had died the year before at the age of 28 from a rare, undiagnosed heart condition. A year later they formed a partnership with the China Charity Federation to help special needs orphans from all over China. Since then, they have provided surgeries for more than 3000 orphans with varying medical problems, and they have assisted in more than 600 adoptions to families in China, North America, Asia and Europe.
In 1998, the Bakers adopted twin boys, Nathaniel and Zechariah, from an orphanage six hours northwest of Beijing. In 1999, they founded Luke's House, a children's home that would be the beginning of Langfang Children's Village, which included five children's homes and a pre-school in 2006. In 2006, Shepherd's Field Children's Village (SFCV) opened on six acres of land the local government donated for their use. Today, SFCV has five children's homes for about 100 orphans, a medical clinic, guest quarters for those who come to volunteer, a beautiful playground, a school, and an outreach center.
The Bakers have seven children and two sons-in-law: Rebecca (28) and her husband, Gregg; Sarah (26) and her husband, Drew; Rachel (20), Esther (16), Nathaniel and Zechariah (11), and Philip (7). Tim and Pam are both graduates of Bethany College, where they earned degrees in cross-cultural studies. Tim also has a master's degree in education from Oral Roberts University. Meet our family >> |
| Originally from Jiangxi province, after working in Guangdong province for more than three years, Christina came to Langfang to continue her English studies at Oriental University City. As the leader of the student union, she had the opportunity to learn about the plight of Chinese orphans, visit them and fundraise for them in school. She first began working as a Chinese tutor for foreign staff, but she was quickly hired to become Tim's assistant, helping him since 2005. She was very moved by what they were doing to help the orphaned children. During one visit to the Langfang Children's Village, a little girl named Olivia smiled at her and crawled to her for a hug. At that moment she knew that she was called to be here. She is very grateful for the opportunity to work with the little children and all the staff at PHF. After working as Tim's assistant for 4 years, Now Christina works as Director of Operations of Shepherd's Field. |
| A Sichuan native, Sara has made good work of helping orphans in the last five years with three different organizations. The combination of English-fluency, never-ending energy and cheerful spirit makes Sara a valuable asset to our China team. As liaison, she is often the first to meet the children and the last to say goodbye. It is clear that she's been blessed with a heart for the children of China, and her smile and servant's heart bless the lives of our children and staff every day. |
Donna comes from a seaside city in Shandong Province and works at Philip Hayden Foundation since December 2007 as Pam's assistant. After graduated from university, she worked in import and export field until she found a vacancy in PHF. Then she quit her job quickly and applied for this position.
She heard of PHF when she was studying in the university. She was deeply moved by the work PHF had done and hoped she could join them. Then God gave her a perfect opportunity to live and work with those blessed kids and people. She likes this quiet and beautiful place so much."It's great pleasure to play with the kids after a busy day of work." |
| Cindy is PHF's US administrative coordinator, based in Temecula, CA. She was introduced to PHF by Bob and Wanda Hildreth, our previous US administrators. Cindy has a heart for children, and has traveled on many short term outreach trips, including several to Calvary Chapel Children's Home in Bacolod, Philippines. She looks forward to visiting the ministry in China in the future. Cindy is married to Gary, her husband of 38 years, in Temecula, California. They have 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. Gary is an assistant pastor at Temecula Creek Christian Fellowship in Temecula. Cindy serves in the Children's Ministry and in the Women's Ministry at their church, and also serves alongside her husband when needs arise. Cindy has had much ministry office experience working as a receptionist, secretary and bookkeeper. She was on staff at Calvary Chapel of Murrieta California for 10 years, and at Calvary Chapel Bible Fellowship for 6 years. She is blessed that God has directed her to PHF, and looks forward with great anticipation to all that God is doing for His glory here in China.

| Beginning in 1997, Lori served for 6 1/2 years as the secretary for a growing church in Corvallis, OR. After marrying her husband Keith in 2004, Lori began working as an office assistant at the California based office of Far Reaching Ministries, a ministry that focuses mainly in Africa. In 2007, she began working part-time for PHF preparing and mailing out the Heartbeat newsletters.
She grew up in a home where Christ was honored and through study of God's Word, prayer and worship, developed a heart for God's glory to be made known throughout the world. As a result of God growing this desire in her heart, she has traveled to various countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and South America to be a part of His work among the nations of the world. Now that she has settled with her husband and son in California, she is excited to continue being used by God through her work for the children of China. |
Clay and Jewel Floch's first thought was: “We can serve at an orphanage!” as they prepared to take their first short-term trip to China in June 2008. They had no idea how that journey would change their lives forever. Exactly one year later, the Flochs found themselves back at Shepherd's Field Children's Village, prepared to stay indefinitely. During their initial visit they'd been powerfully moved, and sensed a calling to come and care for these children. When the opportunity arose to serve, they were ready.
Married for 31 years, Clay and Jewel lived for much of that time in the small town of Odessa, Washington. Tragedy struck in 2001 when their sons, Ryan and Drew, nephew James and Jewel's father, Pastor Tom Starr were lost in a boating accident. This great loss caused them to reevaluate their lives and measure just how much of their effort was dedicated to kingdom work. As a result, they decided to sell the NAPA store they had owned for 20 years and move to Spokane in 2004. The quote “Don't fear failure, fear success in things that don't matter” is a fit description of how Clay and Jewel want to live their lives, participating in things that matter. Shortly after moving, they began attending Valley Fourth Church, where they were challenged last year to take the trip that would transform their lives. They are both excited to be a part of loving and caring for these incredible children, and to see broken lives being redeemed every day through the staff and volunteers here. The precious Chinese orphans – who have been abused, abandoned or given away – remind all of us that every one comes broken and needs to be redeemed.
Clay and Jewel are Guest Relations Coordinators at Shepherd's Field, teach English to the primary class, life skills to the older children and minister in every way they can. Jewel's experience as a para-educator with special-needs children has been an invaluable tool for her work with the children, and Clay oversees the facilities management. |
| Raised in Langfang city, she attended college in Shijiazhuang city, the capital of Hebei province. After graduating, she worked for a cell phone company. But, it wasn't until she began working at PHF that she found work that made her happy. She was struck by the work the Americans had done and were continuing to do for the children, so she joined PHF in March of 2006. She was determined to good work and has been faithful to that promise. She arranges drivers' schedules, facilitates equipment ordering and delivery, works with Mr. Yu to facilitate maintenance needs, and translates for foreign staff. Her cheerful disposition and servant's heart help guests feel welcome at Shepherd's Field and daily encourage local staff. |
| John and Desiray Christen currently live in Marshalltown, IA, with their 3 children, Alyson age 7, Austin age 5 and Parker age 6 months. John is an Engineer at Emerson Process Management and Desiray is a stay at home mom to their children. They first heard about the work at PHF in 2006 when John traveled to China for work and was able to spend some time at the Children's Village while he was there. He was deeply moved by the work of the Bakers and the precious orphans at PHF. In May of 2007, John and Desiray felt called to move to China with their two children and volunteer their time at PHF. This was truly an awesome and rewarding experience and they fell in love with all the children there and with this awesome ministry. After being in China for about 8 months, God called them back to the US upon the pregnancy of their 3rd child. They have not yet felt God's call to return to China , but continue to be involved in this ministry as much as possible from the states.
Desiray heads up the child Sponsorship program. She is gathering information about the children for their sponsors, answering e-mails, sending out pictures, etc. She feels privileged that she is able to help out the orphans of China by being involved in the work God is doing there. The Christen's have just started the adoption process to adopt a child from China and they look forward to welcoming their 4th child into the family in the next couple of years. | Andy recently began working with PHF. He and his wife, Rebecca, were first touched by orphans with the adoption of their son, Noah. They traveled to Cambodia for his adoption in 2001. While visiting the orphanage, they wished they could do more for those children left behind. Andy is really excited about the opportunity to work with PHF. They feel this is an answer to prayer! Andy and Rebecca live in Louisville, Kentucky. He graduated from Hanover College with a degree in Business Administration. He is a CPA at a local accounting firm. Rebecca is a stay-at-home mom. | Originally from Langfang, China, Wei Wei received a degree in accounting
from Renmin University in Beijing. After graduation she worked in Beijing
for some large companies as an accountant. During a holiday, Wei Wei
returned to Langfang to visit her family. It was during this visit that she
first heard about the work of PHF's Langfang Children's Village and our need
for an accountant. Wei Wei visited Langfang Children's Village and was
impressed at how well the orphans were being cared for. She was struck by
the fact that these children were coming in because they abandoned because
they had special needs conditions, but that PHF was providing them surgeries
and basically transforming their lives into something beautiful. She made
the decision that she wanted to be part of this work and was delighted that
she could make a valuable contribution to our team as our staff accountant. |
| Vicky is originally from Langfang, graduated from Hebei University of Technology 2007. She is an English major, later she got her accounting license. Two years ago she got to know PHF and was struck by these children who were abandoned She wants to do something transform these lovely children's lives come to be beautiful. As she knows PHF give the children home make them happy, providing them surgeries. She made the decision that she wanted to be part of this work. Just until this September, she got this opportunity to be our accounting assistant, she was so happy that she can together with our children and see the smiling of children everyday. She was also delighted that she could make a valuable contribution to our team. |
| From the first moment we heard about PHF's work with special needs orphans, our hearts, were touched. In September 2004, we came to visit as a family. When we saw all the needs and the precious children, all four of us felt we wanted very much to be part of the work. With bulging suitcases and much enthusiasm, we moved to China in March 2005. Since coming, we have seen so many lives saved and changed. We have witnessed the amazing transformation that happens when a little one comes in a very poor state but is soon is smiling and feeling so much better. We have seen the miracle of love in action.
All of the children, despite their many health problems, are so beautiful and full of joy and potential. It is a privilege to be part of their lives and help them to have a bright future. Our other great joy is working the Chinese people here. We have come to really love and appreciate their ancient and very great culture and the wonderful people. DR. WILLIAM MOODY graduated from Medical School at the Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Mexico in June 1979. He did his Pediatric residency at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, Calif. and graduated in June 1983. For 19 years, he worked in private practice in Fallbrook, CA as well as at the Fallbrook District Hospital. He has been very involved in developing programs that create access to medical care for the poor and needy in our community.
DR. ANA MOODY attended Medical School at U.C.Irvine, School of Medicine in Irvine, Calif. and graduated in June 1982. She did a Family Practice residency at Valley Medical Center in Fresno, CA, and graduated in June 1985. Prior to medical school, she had earned an RN degree at LAC-USC-School of Nursing. After moving to Fallbrook in 1986, she helped her husband start their practice and set up special programs to help the poor and needy receive medical care. She has also been busy at home with their two sons, Matthew & Josh, as a home school mom. In addition to her 30+ years of experience in medicine, her gifts as a photographer have also been very useful at PHF.

| Dr. Jane comes to us from Langfang but majored in clinical medicine at Zhangjiakou Medical University. After graduation from medical school, Jane worked in a local hospital for one year to gain experience to become a good clinical doctor. After hearing the children's stories, she decided to join the PHF team and use her gifts to offer support to these special children who need love and medical care. She is recently married. |
| Originally from Langfang, China, Candy graduated from Hebei University with degrees in Education and Business Management. A recent graduate, she was happy to make PHF her first job, because it is a place where people do good things for the children. Her first day on the job was the same day that the first babies of Shepherd's Field arrived. She believed it to be more than coincidence and took it as a sign that she belongs at PHF. |

After graduating from Hua Bei Medical School in 1987, Nurse Song began working at the Pipeline Hospital in Langfang in the pediatric department. In 2001, she joined the team at the Langfang Children's Village as our head nurse. Her experience has been an asset to our medical team. |
Annie and her daughter Leilannie were the first Filipino Occupational Therapists (OTs) volunteer who came to Beijing to join with the Beijing International Committee for Chinese Orphans (BICCO), last May 2006. The BICCO had been helping the Chinese orphans with their medical, educational, food and other services, the Committee also see the need of giving rehabilitation training program for the caregivers “Ayi” who take care the disabled ones. They set 2 teams 1PT and 1 OT in each team. They got two (2) other Filipino Physical Therapists (PTs) to complete the team. The plan for the pilot program was only for three (3) months just to try if it will be effective and successful. But after the three months of training services there were more State and Privately run orphanages wanted to avail the program but the 2 PT 's went back home to the Philippines so only Annie and Leilannie continue the program until January 2007 came, her son Philip who is also a physical therapist came over to join the team with his father Orlando. The demand increases so the Committee decided to set-up a based rehabilitation training center in Maquanying, Chaoyang District, Beijing . The center was named “ Grace Rehabilitation Training Center ”. State and Privately run orphanages came with their disabled child and an “Ayi” to be train. Until more children from families and orphanages came over throughout China as far as Inner Mongolia and Urumuqi. So they add more therapist from the Philippines that made them 3 teams. The two teams were assigned to orphanages and one team stays on the base. They were able to train more than 1,000 caregivers including mothers and was able to set-up twenty-two (22) rehabilitation centers in both state and privately run orphanages.
May 2009, the family join with the Philip Hayden Foundation which run the Shepherd's Field Children's Village to help the children with special needs. Annie and her son Philip set-up the rehabilitation center to train the therapy assistant and also give management for the children with needs. God's loving hands are with these special children that resulted with an amazing changes and improvements with number of them.
Annie is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration major in Accountancy prior to her Bachelor Degree of Occupational Therapy. Her two children were already in the elementary grades at that time. After she graduated from OT she already taught three (3) medical schools under the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine specifically OT. She also happened to be the instructor of her two children in their college. Chairmanship and supervisory position were trusted to her in various school that she was connected. She had been invited to guest some lectures and health seminars in both government and private sectors with regards to Health. She is an active church officer with her family and her husband who was a minister and a church worker. Annie enjoys giving seminars and lectures to minister women in various churches in the Women's Ministry Department of the Church.
This family has a strong belief that such services they are doing here in China is God's calling for them. They are so thankful for giving them the opportunity of helping such wonderful children of God. |
| Since July 2007, Laura has been working as an assistant and apprentice to speech therapist Carrie Mills. PHF is her first job after graduating from Langfang Teacher's College this past summer. The special educational, emotional, physical, and relational needs of our lovely, smart kids have captured her heart, and she works hard to best help the kids. She trusts that the collective efforts of the committed, enthusiastic staff make it a lot easier to be more successful in helping these kids. She believes that the sum of the parts can accomplish far more than each individual working on their own, and she is proud of the work she is doing with PHF. |
| A Chinese Education major, Wang Laoshi graduated in 2004 with honors from Lang Fang Normal College in Hebei Province. Right after graduating, she took the job as head teacher for Little Lambs Preschool. She loves working with orphans and wants to be a part of giving our children opportunities to enjoy their life. We are amazed at the ways that Wang Laoshi inspires and challenges her students, no matter their disability. |
Gao Shufeng

In 1993, Gao Laoshi graduated from senior high school and became a teacher in the village school. In August of 1994, she went to be trained at Qing Xian and became a certified teacher. She has special interest in drawing and doing crafts. She loves kids and enjoys playing with them. She has worked at PHF since July 2003. |

Teacher Pan is originally from Shandong Province and graduated from Langfang Teachers College in Hebei Province. He was called to work here three times by Him with James 1:27 on June 1st 2009 when He visited Shepherd's Field again with his foreign teachers. He went to Beijing the next day just like Jonah fled to Tarshish. But He continued to call him with "PHF" which is also his name Pan HongFu, "The LORD Will Provide" and comforted him with a story called "The Dreams of the Three Trees" during the following days. Now He have been here for nearly 5 months and he really enjoy loving the kids HE chose for him. |
Zhang Lingling

Teacher Zhang worked in Shepherd's Field for some time after the graduation of high school,and then went to Tongzhou of Beijing for her furthur study. How time flew! She finished her three-year study in Tongzhou where she learned much knowledge, which brought lots of fun for her life. She enjoy being a teacher in Shepherd's Field much more. She love all the kids here, whose smiles are so lively, innocent and pure, and she really enjoy herself here full of energy. She love this job and want to do much better. She hope to contribute to the society with all her life and help to build beautiful and happy childhood for the kids here. |

Zhang Guangqin

Zhang Guangqin, originally from a nearby Hebei village, has been working with the Bakers for more than ten years. She has been with PHF since we fostered the first three kids and stands witness to how the work has grown and developed. She has been faithful to caring and loving the children, and they adore her in return. Cries of “Mama” can be heard when Zhang Ayi enters one of the six houses under her supervision. Her diligence and capabilities in leading have made her an essential part of PHF, and she is a true blessing to Pam, with whom she works the most closely. Zhang Ayi is mostly responsible for hiring and training the nannies, overseeing the staff and budget, and ensuring the kids receive the best care. She helps Pam with nanny things including hiring and training them. In these 10 years, she has found no reason to complain and regret her work with these lovely children. Zhang Ayi is delighted with PHF's development, and she will continue to devote herself to her duties and the children she so loves. |
Liu Yanhua

Liu Yanhua is from Wenan district in Langfang. Her sincere smile and integrity draw staff and visitors alike. She began working for PHF in 2002 as a children's nanny, and she devoted herself to the care of the children for five years. In those five years, she found no reason to complain or regret her work with these children. She loves how the work affects the children and staff. |
Wang Yulan

If it needs finding, fixing or finishing in the office, Wang Ayi is the first the office staff call for help. Wang Yulan, who is from the remote interior Mongolian grassland, has a kind and virtuous heart. In 2002, she began working for PHF in 2002 as a nanny for the children, to whom she gave much love. Her smile brought delight to the lives of the children in her care. Later, she added the responsibilities of cleaning the PHF office and kitchens. This work has been a good fit for her and her enthusiasm and sweet spirit touch everyone with whom she works. In addition to maintaining the new Shepherd's Field offices, she directs the folding and packing of our newsletter, the Heartbeat. She is so glad to be a part of informing people all over the world about our kids. She has cheerfully devoted her life to the well-being of our children and does so because she believes this is the work God has given her to do. |
