School Supplies Provide Smiles

group of mexican school children receiving free school supplies

It’s back to school time! Just like in the United States, school is free in Mexico. But the students must provide their own school supplies. For families in extreme poverty, the cost of school supplies is more than the cost of food for the family on any given day. Some school-age children don’t attend school because they cannot afford the necessary supplies.

Philip Hayden Foundation is stepping up to encourage children living in extreme poverty to attend school. We are partnering with a local charity in Mérida – Red de Ciudadanos de Mérida – to provide school supplies to needy children. Each child receives notebooks, pencils, colored markers, glue, and a pencil sharpener. Each $10 donation provides supplies to one child, unlocking a year of learning at school. Education continues to be a way out of poverty in Mexico, and your donation makes that happen. Will you change a child’s life today?
